Project overview

A tired four-bed Victorian terrace off Fortis Green Road, freshly bought and needing a full internal repaint before the family moved in. The brief was calm, warm, family-friendly colours throughout, with the original cornices, ceiling roses and skirting boards brought back to life rather than replaced.

What the client wanted

  • Full-house repaint completed inside 2.5 weeks to hit the move-in date
  • Retain and restore all original Victorian mouldings and skirtings
  • Low-VOC paints throughout — two young children moving straight in
  • Sensible mid-tone whites in living areas, deeper tones in the study and master bedroom

Work completed

  • Full protection of floors and staircases with breathable dust sheets and hardboard on high-traffic runs
  • Filled 90+ hairline cracks in original lath-and-plaster ceilings, caulked skirtings throughout
  • Sanded and re-primed all woodwork — skirtings, architraves, doors, dado rails and cornices
  • Two topcoats of Dulux Trade Diamond Matt to all walls and ceilings; feature walls in Farrow & Ball
  • Woodwork finished in Tikkurila Helmi 30 for a durable, low-sheen family-safe finish
  • Snag walk-round with the client on final day — three minor touch-ups fixed same day

"They finished a day early, tidied every evening and the original cornices look better than they've probably looked in 50 years. We moved in the next morning with zero paint smell."

FAQs

Questions we got on this project

How much did a full Victorian repaint like this cost?

Full-house repaints on a four-bed Victorian in North London typically run £8,500–£14,000 depending on ceiling heights, amount of woodwork and how much filling and stain-blocking is needed. This one landed in the middle of that range.

Can you complete a full house before a move-in date?

Yes — with 3–4 weeks' notice we can usually programme a full-house repaint around a firm completion date. Booking early is the key; spring and pre-Christmas book up fast in North London.
